A LETTER TO MYSELF // POETRY - SPOKEN WORDS - 2020

Dear me, I know you're hurting inside. You feel like trash tossed around by the storm, Maybe you're the sand, and life is the sandstorm. I know you're not a good friend to yourself, And your thoughts handle the wheel of your life. I know the heart you crave for can't reciprocate, And you feel your happiness isn't in your hands. I know others are taking pictures with their dreams, But yours seems out of our solar system. I know your tomorrow is haunting you today. You feel empty in the hands of your dreams. You feel like a vagabond, walking every road under the sun without an eye. Tomorrow seems covered with the smoke of fear, And today is soaked in the pool of depression. Maybe you'll sit at the high table, partying with the stars or you'll be the one packing their empty dishes. Maybe your hands will handle the wheels or your butt will sit on the passenger's chair. Fear sits on the throne of your soul, And tears jog in your eyes anytime the thoughts of tomorrow come knocking on your door. Sometimes, you look at the mirror and ask if your little arms can wrestle with life's fist or if a coward like you can stand firm in the face of tomorrow's Goliath. Your eyes on the endless sea of life's journey, Your head looking up to heaven, But fear has stolen the will to fight for your place among the stars. The Moon is for regrets, and the sun is for depression. Yesterday doesn't exist, and tomorrow is just a fairy tale. All you have in life is now! Failure is a stepping stone to heaven, It's OK to accept it and not wail over it. It's OK to feel empty when the road gets tougher, but you must not turn back. It's OK to cry, in order to humble yourself before life humbles you. It's OK to regret so you can connect the dots to draw a better picture. It's OK to be scared because you're flesh and blood But your response to fear defines your tomorrow. It's OK to demand love, but love is in your hands. It's OK to demand happiness, but your happiness is in your hands not in the hands of someone else. Really listen to that voice within saying you'll be OK. Really entertain it, Yes, you'll be OK. Dear me, you'll be OK. You'll be OK, You will. © Oluwatobiloba
